DIY Personalized Computer Covers

Paige

Here’s a purrrrfect DIY that will make your laptop look cat-tastic!

In honor of the Kitty Summer Games on Hallmark, I will be doing computer covers with a “cat” theme in mind.  This is something that you can do at home with a kitty theme, or take any design you love and incorporate that to your laptop.  Your limit is your imagination…the process is the same.

You Will Need:

  • Clear plastic snap on computer covers (You can order these online, I purchased mine from Amazon. Just be sure to order the right size for your computer)
  • Adhesive spray
  • Mod Podge
  • Scissors
  • Utility knife
  • Your computer
  • Foam brush
  • Pictures, glitter, or any embellishments or designs you would like to use on your computer

How To:

  1. Lay out your plastic computer case and all of the design elements you will be using.
  2. If you would like to keep your computer logo, turn on the computer and put a piece of trace paper over the logo when it is lit up. Trace this logo and set it aside.  If you would like to have a color over your logo, cut it out and use it as a template on your colored paper or adhesive paper. If you would like to leave the logo plain, cut it out and either tape it or use light adhesive to keep the place of the logo that you will remove at the end.
  3. Cover the inside of the case with a thin layer of mod podge using a foam brush (you can also use spray adhesive).
  4. Take any cut-outs, pictures or designs that you would like, and press them face down on the computer case (so when it’s turned over on your computer, it will be face up).
  5. Once all of your pictures/designs are laid out, spread another coat of mod podge over the design. Let dry completely.
  6. If you want to uncover your logo, do this now.
  7. Lay over your computer, snap in place and enjoy!

OPTIONAL:

  1. If you are using glitter, follow the same steps, except when you get to #4, drizzle out the glitter evenly and set it aside until it dries. You can do this in one whole glittered surface, or do a design with the glitter.
  2. Once dry, use the spray adhesive to spray over the glitter (use a drop cloth behind) and add another coat of the glitter. Set aside until it dries.  Repeat steps until you like the coverage you have with the glitter.
  3. Once done and completely dry, add another coat of mod podge. Let dry completely.
  4. Lay over your computer, snap in place and enjoy!
