Brunching with the Tribe

Ameka

The online dictionary definition of a tribe is:

A unit of sociopolitical organization consisting of a number of families, clans, or other groups who share a common ancestry and culture and among whom leadership is typically neither formalized nor permanent.

For me – my definition of a tribe is:

An amazing group of women who support my wins and losses in life. Who nurture my weaknesses, celebrate my strengths, pick me up when I have nothing left and support my growth. It’s a group of women who I can share my deepest secrets, warmest hopes and biggest dreams with. Most of all … it’s a group of women who I can laugh out loud with and forget about all of the above.

Not that my man isn’t wonderful, but let’s be honest. Girls need girl time and there is nothing like a little sisterhood bonding and lady loving!

Now I have been lucky enough to find myself two amazing tribes. Say whhhaaattt? Yep, I have such an amazing supportive network of girlfriends at home in Australia who I miss everyday and I have a wonderful group of new friends here in the US who have taken me under their wing and supported and loved me unconditionally. It can take a long time for you to find your tribe, to weed out the toxic friendships in your life but that’s a whole other post girlfriend.

In our fast paced world of modern technology and social media we are lucky to be able to connect with our friends with just a swipe and a like! I know for my tribe, we are all busier than ever, working longer hours (let’s be honest most of us live and breathe our work) studying, traveling in and out of town, trying to balance dating, boyfriends, husbands, children – most of us don’t have 5 minutes to ourselves let alone 5 minutes to hang out “just because” so social media serves us well. We can stay connected – but we are human. We crave human connection and we were all missing our girl time so … a tribe meeting was called and we scheduled some time for some lady love!

A morning was spent at The Hudson LA in West Hollywood, seriously, If you haven’t checked this place out, it is the mecca of BRUNCH. It has bottomless mimosas, a buzzing atmosphere and the most DELICIOUS menu. Seriously that darn breakfast sandwich with potatoes was the best freakin’ thing I’ve eaten in a long time. If all of this isn’t enough of a draw card the service is AMAZING. I didn’t want to leave … I was contemplating offering my kitchen skills just so I could hang out some more.

It was the perfect LA day, the sun was shining and so were my girls. We might have crazy lives but when we get together it’s just crazy fun and I am so grateful to have these amazing women in my life. My Tribe.
