DIY Keeper of the Crypt

Home & Family have the perfect feature for your front yard this Halloween. Make your own Haunted House complete with this crypt walk through!
You Will Need: 
  • 4 pieces of 4×8 2inch extruded polystyrone insulation boards
  • Multi purpose jig saw
  • Pencil/Pen
  • 8 3inch door hinges w/ removal pins
  • Screws
  • 8 1×4 wood boards
  • Heat gun
  • Gray paint
  • Black Paint
  • Gorilla Glue
  • Paint brushes
  • Xacto Knife

How To:

  1. Cut all 4 of the 4×8 foam boards to 6 ½ ft height.
  2. Take 2 of the 4×8 foam insulation boards and trace the entrance patterns onto each board. Blue prints will be on website.
  3. Cut out entrance using multi-purpose jigsaw.
  4. Glue 1×4 boards along both sides of each entrance way using gorilla glue.
  5. Drill boards into place using 3 screws per board.
  6. For sidewalls, glue and screw 1×4 boards along each side. Make sure to leave an inverted space for the boards from the entrance way to fit in.
  7. Take an entrance way and sidewall and line up the edges.
  8. Screw hinges on each board. One towards the top and one towards the bottom.
  9. Match and screw in connecting hinge to join the entrance and sidewall together.
  10. Thread pin through matching hinges to connect walls.
  11. Repeat step until all four walls are connected.

How To: for stone look **DO IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA!!!**

  1. Draw out stone pattern.
  2. Take Xacto knife and cut along the stone lines you just drew out.
  3. Take a heat gun and go along the lines you just cut out.
  4.  To add a distressed look, spray water on foam and go over with heat gun.
  5. Paint black in lines you cut out.
  6. Paint walls gray.
  7. Add moss, skeleton heads, and any other accessories you’d like to incorporate.
