Refurbished Patio Furniture

Paige

With Memorial Day right around the corner, everyone’s going to be heading out to their backyards for BBQ’s and to kick off the summer fun. But, your patio furniture may have taken a hit during the winter rain and storms.

I have this great patio set in my backyard, and it’s such a shame that the elements have destroyed the finish on it. It looks terrible, but patio furniture is not cheap, so I didn’t want to just throw it out or buy a new set. I’m going to show you guys how you can totally update your outdoor furniture, with a top quality product, that will stand up to the sun, rain and other outdoor elements!

Here’s how to go get started!

You Will Need:

  • Krylon paint
  • Sand paper
  • Drop cloth
  • Rag
  • Soap/Water
  • Patio Furniture

How To:

  1. Clean the surface you are going to paint with soap and water or a wet rag.
  2. In my situation, the paint has chipped off in various places around the wrought iron. If you paint over this, it will still continue to chip off with the new paint. You need to take sand paper and sand back the entire surface, making sure to scrape off any loose parts of the painted surface. You do not need to take off the finish all over your surface-just the parts that are loose.
  3. Wash the entire surface making sure you leave no dust behind.
  4. Lay out the item on a drop cloth or newspapers so that you don’t get “overspray” on anything else.
  5. Now, it’s time to spray your new finish onto the furniture. This is key though, because you’re going to want a top quality product, that will stand up to the sun, rain and other outdoor elements!

TIP: Use Krylon Paint. They have some of the best colors and finishes if you’re looking to create or restore finishes. More importantly, they also have superior adhesion and durability. And just for a fun fact, Krylov’s Covermaxx can is covered in colour from top to bottom so if you lose the cap, you still know what colour the paint is!

Technique Tips

You’ll want to take your Krylon spray paint and shake vigorously before applying. Apply several coats of the paint very lightly, going from side to side. You should lift your finger off the trigger after each pass.

Let dry between each coat, which is another reason why Krylon is great. IT HAS SUPER FAST DRY TIME, AND SHOULD BE GOOD IN LESS THAN 10 MINUTES.

Now all that’s left to do is to decorate and enjoy the new facelift you gave your patio furniture!
