DIY Apothecary Cabinet with Sophie Uliano

Paige

This week on Home and Family, I teamed up with the very talented and beautiful Sophie Uliano to create a healthy and fun way to take care of your family this fall and winter season. Since Sophie is the “green” goddess, she believes in the amazing power of natural and holistic remedies to keep your family in tip-top shape. To find out the healing qualities in her potions, head to Sophie’s website here sophieuliano.com

All of these natural remedies are wonderful, but if you have to search high and low to find each of them, it will cut down on your care-taking abilities. Here’s a quick and easy way to create a place to organize and store all of your goodies.

You Will Need:

  • Small Cabinet: If you can find a cute cabinet with drawers and shelves, you can use that! We found some drawers at a garage sale, and decided to spruce it up with some craft wood and shelves. If you are going to follow this method, get craft wood and use glue and a nail gun to assemble it. If you find one that just needs a little love, then continue with the directions below.
  • Grey paint
  • Cream paint
  • Swirl appliqués (or “bling”)
  • Handles for your drawers (or drawer pulls)
  • Sand paper
  • 2” paint brush

How To:

  • Remove all hardware from your cabinet
  • Sand down your wood until most of the finish is removed from the cabinet
  • Add any appliqués you would like on the drawers
  • Take the grey paint and paint on a full bottom coat, completely covering the appliqués used. This will make your piece look expensive, custom and antiqued
  • Take the cream paint and gently dry-brush a coat of the cream on top of the grey (this is done by using a dry brush with just a little paint on it)
  • Add fancy drawer pulls
  • You can leave this on your counter or put a hanging kit on the back to hang it in a convenient spot for the whole family
