DIY Mudroom Storage

Paige

With kids going back to school, chances are there are going to be dirty little shoes and backpacks that need a place to go! I’ve got the perfect answer for your household whether you have a mud room or not… A back to school entry organizer for you and your kids! Here is what you need to get started …

You Will Need:
  • 2 x sheets of bead board
  • 2 x bookcase or storage cabinets
  • Plywood
  • 2 x 4 wood
  • Wood furniture moulding
  • Screws
  • Glue
  • Paint
  • Coat hooks
Side Panels:
(2)3/4″ plywood board 16 1/2″ x 85″
Bottom feet:
(6) 2×4 x 2″
Top and bottom mounding:
 (2) 1×4 x 57 7/8″ and (2) 1×4 x 17 1/4″
Bread board backing:
(1) 84 1/2 x 48″ (1) 84  1/2 x 10 1/2″

How To:

1. Cut your 2 x 4 into 16 inch pieces. You will use this as the base of your unit.

2. Set your horizontal bookshelf on the 2×4’s and secure with a screw to the wall. If you can find a stud, drill into the stud. If you cannot, I suggest using drywall anchors.

3. Place the headboard on top of the horizontal bookshelf and screw into wall.

4. Take a section of your 1×4’s and place them on the wall where your top bookshelf will go.

5. Attach bookshelf and secure into wall with screws.

6. Add plywood to each side

7. Add 1×4 to the bottom front and sides

8. Glue on pre-cut molding

9. Use nail gun to secure moulding

10. The last step is to paint, which we’ve already done, and hang the coat hooks
